Common questions

My icons look wrong — how do I get my desktop back?

Open Iconstellation and click Undo (steps back one change) or Original layout (returns to how your desktop looked before Iconstellation ever touched it — that snapshot is taken once and never overwritten). Restores follow icons by name, so they work even after you've added or removed files.

I uninstalled while a shape was applied. Now what?

The uninstaller offers to restore your original layout first — if you skipped that, your icons simply stay where they are. Windows itself can re-sort them: right-click the desktop → View → Auto arrange icons. Reinstalling Iconstellation also brings back Undo and Original layout (your snapshots survive uninstalling).

Where does Iconstellation keep its data?

Everything is local, under %APPDATA%\Iconstellation: your original-layout snapshot, undo history, and shapes you create. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — see the privacy statement.

The app crashed — how do I report it?

A crash report is saved to %APPDATA%\Iconstellation\logs (plain text). Email it to support@iconstellation.app — please skim it first: it contains technical error details and can incidentally include desktop icon names.

Windows warned me about the installer ("SmartScreen").

The installer isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows shows a caution screen for a new publisher. Only download Iconstellation from get.iconstellation.app — never from third-party download portals.

Does it move or delete my files?

No. Iconstellation only repositions desktop icons and adjusts icon-view settings (like “align to grid”) through the same Windows shell interfaces Explorer itself uses — no screenshots, no overlays, no process injection. Your files never move, change, or leave your machine.
