For Windows 10 & 11 · Free

Your icons, your constellation.

Iconstellation arranges the icons already on your desktop into shapes and constellations — through the same Windows shell interfaces Explorer itself uses, not screenshots or overlays. Every icon stays a real, clickable icon. And every change is reversible.

No account · No telemetry · Undo built in

Your real icons glide into a heart, a star, an arrow — then right back where they were. Every change is one Undo away.

How it works

Pick. Apply. Change your mind anytime.

1

Pick a shape

Browse twelve shapes — clean geometry, a pine, a moon, and three constellations — ranked best-fit-first for the number of icons actually on your desktop. A live preview mirrors your real desktop, so you see exactly how it will look before anything moves.

2

Apply

Hit Apply and your icons glide across the wallpaper into place. They’re not pictures of icons — they’re your actual icons, repositioned. Double-click, right-click, and drag all keep working.

3

Always reversible

Undo steps back through your changes. And “Original layout” is a snapshot of how Iconstellation first found your desktop — never overwritten, and restores follow icons by name even if things have shuffled since.

The launch set

Shapes that read from across the room.

Every dot below is one of your icons. The set spans clean geometry, seasonal outlines, and real constellations like Orion and Cassiopeia — each hand-tuned so icon labels stay readable.

A taste of what’s in the download — in the app, every shape is ranked by how well it fits the icons actually on your desktop. See all 41 shapes →

The evolution concept

Shapes grow with your desktop.

Nine icons make a small, complete sun. More icons give it rays; past its capacity, the extras wait in a tidy corner — every icon accounted for, one click from home. What you see below are the engine’s real layouts, not an artist’s impression.

Computed by the same engine that moves your real icons — grow, then fill, and the leftovers park politely instead of cluttering the art.

What you get

Small, careful, and honest about it.

Everything below works the moment you install it, with no account and no card.

Twelve shapes, free

Hand-tuned geometry — ring, heart, star, sun, hexagon, octagon, square, pine, moon — plus Orion, the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. Sorted by how well each one fits your icon count, so the best matches come first rather than a wall of thumbnails.

Nothing to buy, nothing to join

No account, no card, no trial timer, no upsell inside the app. What you install is the whole thing that exists today.

Live preview

The preview mirrors your real desktop — your wallpaper, your icons — so there are no surprises when you apply.

Glide animation

Applying a shape animates your icons smoothly across the wallpaper into their new positions. A small moment of delight, on your real desktop.

Watch it grow

Shapes that grow with your desktop get a play button — press it and watch the shape build up from a handful of icons to the number actually on your desktop. Every step is a real layout, so you see how it would fill out as your files pile up.

Real icons, real shell

Iconstellation positions icons through the same Windows shell interfaces Explorer itself uses. No overlays, no fake desktops, nothing renamed or deleted — icons only ever move.

Make it yours

Set the glide speed, decide whether symmetric shapes stay perfectly exact or spend every icon, and optionally start Iconstellation with Windows — it never rearranges anything on its own.

Undo & Original layout

Multi-step Undo, plus a never-overwritten snapshot of your original desktop. Restores follow icons by name, so the safety net holds even after changes.

Private by design

No telemetry, no account, nothing collected. The app’s only network request is a tiny update check against our own server — everything else lives locally in %APPDATA%, and uninstalling never deletes your safety net.

Roadmap

Where the sky is heading.

None of this is in the app yet. It’s what we’re building toward.

Coming

Live mode

Your desktop slowly morphs between shapes on a timer — a constellation that drifts through the day.

Coming

Creator Mode & more shapes

Draw your own shapes dot by dot, and a much larger catalog — the rest of the constellations, seasonal sets, geometry beyond the basics. These are built and waiting; they arrive when there is a way to buy them.

Coming

Multi-monitor magic

Constellations that span every screen on your desk. Our most-requested aspiration, and one we’re determined to get right.

Coming

Shape sharing community

Share the shapes you make and browse what others have drawn.

What you download is free, complete, and has no upsell in it. There is no checkout yet, so we ship only the shapes meant to be free rather than showing you locks you couldn’t open. When paid extras do arrive they will be announced first, these twelve stay free, and we’ll only ever charge for things that exist.

Privacy

Nothing leaves your PC. Nothing.

This isn’t marketing shorthand — it’s how v1 is built:

  • No telemetry, no analytics, no account. The only network request is a tiny update check against our own server — it carries nothing about you or your desktop.
  • Everything Iconstellation stores lives locally in %APPDATA%\Iconstellation.
  • Uninstalling never deletes your original-layout safety net.

The exact wording lives in our privacy statement — it’s short enough to actually read.
